Synchronicity Hatsune Miku Hair Accessories

Heyllo everyone! Here's my way of making Synchronicity Hatsune Miku's hair accessories. I decided to make this tutorial because I couldn't find any that I could buy off of eBay or any site like that. And I need them because I plan on cosplaying as Synchronicity Hatsune Miku at Banzai 2013. :)

STEP 1: Here are a few reference pics. You can use one or both of them. I recommend using both. :)

STEP 2: Here's a list of your needed materials. :)
  • Popsicle Sticks (preferably wide ones, you can find them at any craft store)
  • Electrical Tape (you can find this at hardware stores such as Home Depot)
  • Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue (again, craft stores should carry them)
  • Red Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Small to Medium Sized Jewels (these are optional)
  • A Sharpie

STEP 3: Cut your popsicle sticks so that they're all 4 inches long. These will be used for the front and back of the accessories. The top ones need to be about 2 or 3 inches long, depending on the width of your pigtails. If you're using wide popsicle sticks then you'll need 18 sticks total, I used these weirdly thin popsicle sticks that I found at my grandma's house so I had to use three sticks for each side. I also used three more to keep the front ribbon from curling in weird angles. You don't have to put the popsicle sticks in the ribbon but I would recommend it.

STEP 4: Take your electrical tape and pull out a really long piece, you should be able to put three popsicle sticks on this one piece. Take your popsicle sticks and line them up in the middle, make sure to leave a space big enough so when you bend the sticks in a 90 degree angle that the sticks should be right next to each other. After you have all of the sticks taped on one side, bend them so that you have three sides and that all of the angles measure to be approx. 90 degrees. Now take a smaller piece of tape and tape the corners so when you hold one side of it the angles stay in place. After you have all of the corners taped cover the rest of the popsicle sticks to that most of the wood isn't showing. Don't freak out about the tiny edges that show because that's what the Sharpie's for.

STEP 5: Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you have three three-sided square lookin' thingies. ^_^; I'm so horrible at explaining this..... v_v I'll post a vid as soon as I can. Ok now take your three-sided square thingies and plug in you hot glue gun. While it's heating take your red ribbon and measure the sides of your square thingies and cut the ribbon to match the length. Do this for all of them. Your hot glue gun should be heated up by now, so take your glue gun and put glue on your ribbon. Take your ribbon with the glue on it and center it on one side of the hair accessory. You have to this really fast or else your glue will cool before you can put it on the hair accessory. Only do one side at a time or the glue will dry before you can put it all on. Repeat this step for the other two square lookin' thingies.

STEP 6: You'll need to either put on your Miku wig or have it on a wig head for this next step. Take your newly ribboned hair accessory parts and arrange them however you like on your Miku pigtail. It should at least resemble what the reference pic looks like. I recommend putting the ends on top of each other so that you're able to glue them together easier. Now that you have them all arranged how you like it's time to glue them all together! :D

STEP 7: Pull out another piece of electrical tape, a bout the length of one popsicle stick plus an extra inch or so. Take one of your popsicle sticks and place one end on the top edge, there should be some extra tape on the other end. Take the extra and wrap it around the end so that one side of the popsicle stick is completely covered and the other side is partially covered. You can cover the whole thing with tape but you don't have to. Measure out more red ribbon so that it wraps around the bottom just like the tape and glue it to the center of the tape covered popsicle. This will serve as your top dangling ribbon. Repeat this step twice more for the other two dangling ribbons, the only difference is the length. The last two need to be only half the length of the first.

STEP 8: Now that you have three different length ribbons, it's time to glue them together! :D Glue the top end of the second ribbon part (one of the shorter sticks) to the back end of the first ribbon part (the longest stick) so that there is about 2-3 inches of the second part showing below the first part. Then glue the top end of the last part to the back of the second part so that there is about 2-3 inches showing below the second part.

STEP 9: Repeat steps 4-8 for the other hair accessory. You can repeat step 3 if you need more popsicle sticks.

STEP 10: Now that you have your hair accsessories done its time to glue on the jewels! :D So take your jewel, put some hot glue on the back, and place the jewel where the ribbon parts are attached to the accessory. You can also add any other glittery things that you feel like, though I would suggest that you don't do too much or else it'll turn out not to look like what you want it to be. ^^;

Yey!!! Now you're done! You have just finished making Synchronicity Hatsune Miku hair accessories! XD Now that I've got this one done I'll have to get around to doing a tutorial for Synchronicity Miku's shoes and staff. Comment and share people! Comment and share! XD I will also try to get my tutorial video up and posted as soon as I can because this written tutorial is kinda stupid and confuzzling at some points. ^-^; Thanx for reading and please check out my YouTube page and all of the other blogs that I run! :D

Now is Only the Beginning

Hello everyone! I've suddenly decided to make this blog cause I just felt like it. :) I hope that my tutorials help you guys in some sort of shape or form. Also, I may not have the best way for everyone to make these things that I'm posting tutorials about and most of it will probably be beginner's luck since I'm not that awesome at making stuff. ^_^; I hope you guys will spread the word and get lots of people to read my blog. :)
