Update on Elsa cosplay

Hey guys! ^w^ so today I have an update on my Elsa cosplay! XD I've finally gotten my wig and I'm so happy about it! It's not the best quality, just above Halloween store I'd say. :( I've taken it out of its pre-styled braid and treated it with a fabric softener/water mixture. I have yet to re-braid it but I'll do that sometime within the next few days. I've bought a four color makeup pallet, I got it at my local Smith's. I've finally started adding on the detail to my bodice and sleeves.I'm using just plain Elmer's glue and super messy glitter. I swear, the glitter is going to be the end of me. =_=;;; then over top of the glitter I use a watered down Elmer's glue mixture. You can use Modge Podge, but I would rather use Elmer's glue cause that's all I've got right now. :) I've also ordered and recieved my Coronation Elsa dress!!! XXXDDD I was so happy when it came! It's made of a very soft, very thin costume silk. It needs to be altered a bit before I can do much with it and it needs a petticoat because it looks so limp and lifeless without one. >_< and that's all for this update! Thanx for all of your views! Please continue to support me and view my blog, YouTube channel, and all other social media profiles! ^w^

Hey guys so I stumbled upon this megaphone tutorial and I really liked it. :) I used a vinyl sticker for my heart detail on the side. Other than that I followed the tutorial for the rest of the process. :) I hope this is helpful. ^w^

Heyllo to My Awesome Viewers :3

Hey guys! Sorry that I haven't posted anything in almost forever and a day. ^_^;;; I've been working on my newest project which is Kagamine Rin's Default Cosplay! Yaaaaay!!! It would go much much faster if the hand held sewing machine would actually work. >_> So now I'm having to hand sew it all. Ehehe. *groan* It's taking forever to sew all of the little triangles on her belt. TTT-TTT I really need a sewing machine. So yeah, please be patient with me and my life drama and crap. ^^; Hopefully I will get at least one tutorial up before this month ends and if not then I have no idea when I'll get anything done. *dies slightly* I'll post at some point.

Thanx for keeping with me,

Splurge >w<

Hey guys! So today I decided to splurge a bit and get an actual sewing machine! Yaaaaaay!!! XD Even though its only a hand held it works great. :) I bought it at my local Michael's store for $18. :3 I'm thinking about going back and getting a regular sewing machine for $45-50 that they have available there. :)

It makes nice straight stitches that I can never achieve with my hand sewing. :D

Miku Plushie :3

Hey guys! So yeah, I know this post has nothing to do with cosplay, but it is anime so I might as well post about it. :) So recently I started making plushies! :D I got all of my felt at Walmart, 23 cents per solid colored sheet. I got the pattern off of Deviantart, so it's not mine to own. ^_^

Isn't she. . .

just adorable? :)

Yeah, I let my friend draw the face on my plushie. The first try wasn't such a success. ^^;;; She put way too much detail into the face and in the end all of the cute detail just kinda bled together making it look not so cute. ^^;;;;;;;;;; Her second attempt looks way better since it's much more simple than the first. :) So yeah, I will post more pics of any other plushies I complete in the future! :D

Rin Bow and Headphone Templates

Hey guys! So I ran into a problem when I was making my Kagamine Rin bow. My problem was that I couldn't get the shape right so I found this pic, printed it out, and used it as a pattern of sorts. I also had another problem with the headphone template so I found another template online. And here's a couple of tips: When you make the microphone part wrap the foam strip around a straightened jumbo sized paper clip. The paper clip adds a more stiff look to it and if you bend it it will stay in place. :3 Just don't wrap the whole thing, leave at least an inch of exposed paper clip to use for attaching the microphone to the earphone. I also wrapped another strip around the end for the mouthpiece then traced and cut a circle to glue onto the end of the mouthpiece. Then I cut to pieces of yellow paper and glued them to the outside of the mouthpiece. I hope this post helps you too! XD

Matryoshka Kagamine Rin

Hey guys! Sorry for not posting in like weeks. ^^; I haven't really been able to put together a tutorial until now. ^_^;; I volunteered at my high school's art festival this past Friday, my friends and I were encouraged to come in cosplay just to have something fun and new at the festival. So I decided to make a Matryoshka Rin. :) It's really simple as long as you have a Kagamine Rin wig. ^w^ So I guess here it is!! :D

STEP 1: Reference Pic!!!

STEP 2: Gathering Materials:
STEP 3: The only thing that I really need to explain is why there's electrical tape and scissors on the list above. That is because you can use it for the markings on any Matryoshka character's face. Electrical tape is really awesome to use for the more angular face patterns. Whereas if your character has dots/circles or wavy lines in their facial pattern then you'll want to use eyeliner or a costume makeup crayon. I personally like to use the electrical tape method much more than the other methods.
With electrical tape you don't have to worry about it fading or wearing off or smearing. The only problem is if you're going to wear it for more than 4 hours, especially if it's at a con but it also goes for photo shoots or casual meet ups with friends. If this applies then after about 3 1/2 hours you'll want to take off the old tape, wash your face or wipe taped over areas with a face towelette, then replace the tape after your face is dry and there's no blotchy spots left from the tape. WARNING: As soon as you rip off the tape your skin will feel raw! Let your face have at least 10 - 30 minutes of rest in between tape usage!
Eyeliner or any other makeup will have to be touched up more often than the electrical tape. If you go with this method then make sure that you have whatever product you're using on hand at all times and a mirror. Makeup will most likely smudge and fade if you wear it for a long period of time. It's always a good thing to be in a group so that they can tell you if your makeup is in need of some touching up. :)

STEP 4: Here's a link to a Matryoshka smiley face template: http://www.deviantart.com/morelikethis/217089010?view_mode=2  Print it out then use glue and a large popsicle stick to make your mask. :)

And there you go! You now have a Matryoshka Kagamine Rin cosplay! It makes for a great last minute cosplay before that con or for a beginner cosplayer. :) I will be trying to post a tutorial for how to use the electrical tape method and maybe the eyeliner method as well. Thanx for reading this post! XD

PS- Here's some pics of me and my friend as Matryoshka Norway and Rin. (I'm Rin if you didn't know) We both used the tape method since I didn't have any eyeliner or such. Plus neither of us had Matryoshka contacts. ^_^;;;

Random Tip #4

This post will be about some con advice, so it won't be too long of a post. ;)
First of all, if you're not an experienced con-goer then I would recommend that you go with someone with at least a little bit of con experience or a group of three or four people. This way it will be less scary if you're going to a larger con and my personal opinion is that it's lots more fun with at least one other person there with you, especially if it's a friend. :)
ALWAYS WEAR OR HAVE AT LEAST ONE PAIR OF COMFORTABLE SHOES!!!!!!!!! Going to a con and walking around in uncomfortable shoes for 12 - 15 hours at a con is a great way to wreck any sort or good experience you might have at the con you're attending. >:(
Water is an awesome thing to have especially if the con you're attending is in a place with either high humidity or heat or both. Cash is also your friend because most small time vendors and artists don't accept cards, whether they be debit or credit. : /

But the most important thing you need to have at a con is fun! If you don't have fun at the con you're attending then why even bother to go? I mean it's just going to end up as a waste of your money so why even spend it that way? So fun really is the most important thing you can do/have at an anime convention. :D

Thanx for reading! Please continue to do so too! XD

Twisted Princesses >:)

Hey guys! Well for the past couple of days I've been thinking about doing a cosplay from the pic series "Twisted Princesses" by . All of these pics are of princesses from different Disney movies that have 'saved' themselves from whatever predicament that they were in during the story. The one I want to do is also my favorite of all of them. Can you guess who it is?
Yep, it's Wendy from Peter Pan. If you look closely you can see that the dagger she's holding is actually Peter's and Hook's hook is tied to her belt. It'll be a bit hard but I'll do my best to make it as accurate as possible and it'll probably going to take forever to gather it all and put it together. ^^; Even so, I really hope I can get it done before Halloween this year. :)

Simple Leg Warmers

Hey guys! Well I was thinking about Voacloid  cosplays and I realized that I've posted about arm warmers but not leg warmers so that is what I shall post about now. :) I found this tutorial on Deviant Art awhile ago so now I shall share this finding with you my awesome viewers. :D Here's the link to the tutorial: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs33/f/2008/296/e/2/Tutorial___Simple_Leg_Warmers_by_taeliac.jpg You know what to do with the fabrics and colors and such, it's basically the same as the arm warmers tutorial but she might say it better than I did. ^^;;;

Bigger and Better!

Alright! Well since I've got my Rin wig it's time to get that Daughter of Evil cosplay that I've been wanting since forever! XD I'm going to buy it off of Taobao for $53.50 plus free shipping. :) I have the money I just need the account. ^^;;; Here's some pics of what the dress looks like and the link at which I'm buying it from: Daughter of Evil Cosplay Link :)

Rin Wig Review :)

Hey guys! Well my Rin wig came today! I am so excited because it wasn't actually supposed to come today, it was supposed to come sometime next week! So yeah, I's happy about that. ^w^ The wig is has a nice color to it and is good quality. The only thing I didn't like about it at first was how short it is in the back, but I guess that since my hair's so long and thick that it makes the wig seem shorter than what it would be if I had shorter and/or thinner hair. I bought it from TaoBaoPit on Amazon. I have already posted the link but here's another to the post here on my blog: http://simplecosplaytutorials.blogspot.com/2014/01/cheap-rin-wig.html?m=0  So I would give this wig an awesome rating and you guys will NOT regret it! Unless you could use the money somewhere else then I guess you would regret it a little bit. ^^;;; So yeah, over all my Rin wig is good quality, has a good color, and is fairly cheap considering some of the other wig prices that I've seen. :)

Here's some pics of my wig. The color can change with different monitors/screens.

Cosplay in a Day: Ah! Death Should Not Have Taken Thee! King Rin Cosplay

Hey guys! Well I found this vid while surfing around on YouTube and it's actually fairly easy and accurate to the cosplay that she is doing. I'm thinking that I want to do something like this and film it for all of you awesome viewers that view this blog. :)

Reference Pic for those of you who have no idea who the character is! :D

Hatsune Miku Magnet Headphones. . .Convention Sized :)

Hey guys! So here's my tutorial for convention sized Magnet Miku headphones. These will be a lot less bulky and will be easier to keep on. Hence why they are called convention sized. ^w^ They're also a bit easier to make and you don't need as many materials as the full sized set. It's essentially just smaller and there's no headband. :) So please enjoy this awesome tutorial!

STEP 1: Reference Picture! XD

STEP 2: Gathering Materials:

  • Templates (see the other headphone tutorial for templates)
  • Craft knife or sharp pocket knife (optional)
  • Hot pink card stock or craft foam (they can actually be any color that you want and/or have if you follow my version, here is the link: Magnet Headphone Tutorial)
  • Elmer's liquid glue
  • Scissors
  • A stack of heavy books
  • A flat surface
  • Hot glue and gun
  • Random scratch paper
  • Two alligator hair clips
STEP 3: First print out your templates. They can be as big or small as you want/need. Make them so that they are about half to three quarters the size of the original headphones. Then cut them out and line them up so that you can see if they are proportionate to each other, trim them down if you need to. :) Next you can cut out the designs inside of the butterfly templates with the craft/pocket knife. You can do that or just color the designs whatever color you want them to be.

STEP 4: Now you'll smear glue on the back of the butterfly template and glue it to the card stock/craft foam then glue the earphone template to the butterfly template. You'll want to place a paper on top of it so that when you put the stack of books on top, so you won't glue the paper to your books. ^^;

STEP 5: When the glue is completely dry take off the stack of books and glue the Alligator hair clips to the backs so that when you clip them onto your hair/wig they will be in the right place over your ear.

Yey! Now you're done! ^w^ I wore mine to Anime Banzai 2013 and I can say with complete confidence that I am very happy, and I mean VERY happy, that I had made a smaller version of the Magnet headphones for the con. :) So if you're planning a Magnet cosplay for a con I would recommend that you either buy the headphones or you make a pair of these. :) So yeah! Well Happy Cosplaying! XD

Random Tip # 3

Yey! The third installment of my random tips! XD This specific tip is for more of the beginners. :)

When you don't know who to cosplay as, pick a character that has common personality traits with yourself. Like if you you're younger, outgoing, and generally happy but everyone seems to ignore you; do some research on Sealand from Hetalia. :) Most of the characters from Hetalia are fairly easy to cosplay as because they have a more regular style of clothing. For a lot of characters you can probably find a more 'casual' form of their original cosplay.
Take Miku for example. Miku is a Vocaloid with long teal hair pulled up into two pigtails. This is her default cosplay:

It's made up of a sleeveless gray collared shirt with teal trim, a teal tie, black arm warmers with teal trim, a black skirt with teal trim, thigh high socks with teal trim, black boots, and her specific set of Vocaloid headphones. This cosplay can cost you up to $150 online (at least that's as how high I've found it to be). This whole cosplay cost me about $20 - $30, not including the wig. It was a combined effort with my friend who sewed the trim on the shirt and skirt, made me the headphones and bought the tie for me.
My boots were a pair that my mom was going to throw away, I renovated and fixed them up so that they would look nice enough to look only slightly used. :) My grandma bought me the fabric to make my arm warmers and I sewed them by hand. I have yet to buy and make the socks.
I got the wig off of eBay for $27.99 + free shipping and I got a free wig cap with it too. :) You see, you want to go through all of the results of your eBay search before you choose one because my friend told me that she bought a England wig for $15.99 then found another for $10.99 + free shipping.

Wow I got really off topic. ^^;;; Now back to casual cosplay. :) Casual cosplay is really easy to do. For a Miku casual cosplay, I got a girly gray tee, light blue skinny jeans, and black boots. See? Easy-peasy. :)

And another tip, I got this from the YouTube vid series Cosplay 101, become a hoarder! You'll never know what will come in handy some day! ^w^ I guess that's it for today! :) See you next time! :D

How to Make a Con Survival Kit

Hey guys! The following link is a link to a sight of a fairly good description of what should be in a con survival kit. http://danganronpacosplayhelp.tumblr.com/post/72672248587/making-a-con-survival-kit I really like this link and it's fairly accurate and such. Though you can probably not take some of this stuff if your cosplay wouldn't be in need of that kind of repair. Of course I would take everything just in case. :) Here's the pic that was posted on the link:

Vocaloid Love is War Tie

This tutorial will be for the tie that you see the Twins and Miku wear when they're wearing their Love is War outfits. It's actually quite easy. So easy that I'm not sure if I should post this tutorial. You can also use this tutorial for other tie needs for other cosplays. So here you go!

STEP 1: Reference Pic!

STEP 2: Gathering Materials:
  • Paper
  • Pen/pencil/marker
  • Scissors/fabric sheers
  • Sewing pins
  • Sewing machine/needle and thread
  • Vocaloid colored fabric
  • Vocaloid colored thread
STEP 3: First you're going to want to draw up your pattern. The shape should be a rectangle shape that is however long you want it to be but should be at least 20 inches long. One end of the shape should be 4 inches wide and the other 1-2 inches. Make sure to add 1/2-1 inch of extra fabric for seam allowance. Next, the shape needs to taper off evenly so you don't have a weird shape. :) After you draw up your pattern cut it out and pin it to your fabric. Then cut out the pattern so that you have two copies of your pattern.

STEP 4: Take the two pattern pieces, pin them together and sew them. You'll want to not sew the thinner end first or else you'll have a weird looking tie. ^_^; Sew the other three sides first then turn the tie inside out, tuck in the ends of the open end, and sew it closed.

STEP 5: Try it on, see how it looks, and make any adjustments that you need. And then you're done! XD

Thanx for viewing my blog and I hope to have more tutorials for everyone soon! Right now I'm in the process of trying to post all five of my tutorial vids that I've got stored on my computer to YouTube. ^_^;;; See you soon!!! :D

Kagamine Rin Love is War Skirt

Heys everyone! This tutorial is going to be for the oh so elusive Kagamine Rin Love is War skirt. I keep finding Rin's cosplay with the shorts for less than the cosplays with the skirt. Of course if you find a link somewhere that proves me wrong then please post it in the comments below. :3 You can use the Miku tutorials for the shirt and armband with the difference of fabric colors. :) Now onto the tutorial! XD

STEP 1: Reference Pic!

STEP 2: Gathering materials:
  • A yellow skirt of the desired length, you most likely want it to go to mid-thigh
  • Yellow fabric, about 1/2-1 yard depending on how long your skirt is
  • Sewing pins
  • Sewing machine/needle and thread
  • Yellow thread
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Scissors/fabric sheers
STEP 3: You can pick up a skirt anywhere. Like a DI or thrift shop. It won't matter what shade of yellow the skirt is because you're going to sew strips of fabric over it when you make the ruffles. The skirt should have an elastic waistband and no decorations of any kind anywhere on it. You might want to get a skirt made out of the same fabric as the fabric for the ruffles you're going to add on later. So a cotton blend or something around there. :) I wouldn't recommend using a super thick and heavy skirt because it will be hard to sew together later on. : / The skirt's shape should be loose fitting, not something like a pencil skirt, so that you can move freely.

STEP 4: When you have your skirt, measure the length. This will determine how many ruffles you want to sew on. For example; if your skirt was 20 inches long you might want to have five 4 inch wide ruffles or ten 2 1/2 inch wide ruffles.
PS when you're doing the ruffles you'll want to hem one side and leave the other side raw. The raw side will be hidden under the ruffle above it.
When you sew the ruffles to the skirt you'll want to leave at least an inch in between each ruffle. If you have space at the bottom then sew another ruffle on until you cover the whole skirt with ruffles. :D

STEP 5: The ruffles should measure to be however long you want them to be and whatever your skirt's circumference is plus another 10 or so inches so that you have enough fabric for each ruffle to be, well, ruffle-y. Cut out as many ruffles as you need, pin them to your skirt, and start sewing! :D

STEP 6: Sew the first ruffle just below the elastic waistband and the last one on the hem of the skirt. There should be at least 1 inch of space between each ruffle like I said before. :) Make sure to try on the skirt every time you add another ruffle to see if there needs to be any adjustments.

When you have sewed all of the ruffles on put on the skirt and adjust it wherever it's needed. :) Then you're done! This is an awesome skirt that you can use for both cosplay and regular use. :) Either way it's a really cute skirt. :D Thanx for viewing this post I hope it helped you with your Love is War cosplay needs and please spread word of my blog! It would be awesome! XD I will try to get a video up soon for this tutorial and others. ^^; I know I keep promising that but this time I'll try to actually get them done and posted!

Kagamine Rin Meltdown Gutiar

Hey guys I found this tutorial while surfing the net. It seems fairly simple and inexpensive so I thought I would share my findings with all of you. :)
Kagamine Rin Meltdown Gutiar Tutorial

Happy New Year's Everyone!!!!

Hey guys, it New Year's Eve and I'm hoping that you'll stay with me for another awesome year of cosplay tutorials. :)
